possible meds complications

by Mark__0, Sep 17, 1998 12:00AM

I have had doudinal ulcer conditions since 1981. I have been prescribed meds like tagemet. About 2 years ago I began taking Prilosec and then Zoloft in congunction. In the past year I have found that just about anything I eat comes back up, but primarily meats or proteins. Milk will come back as solid curds, ice cream turns foamy and hamburger remains in undigested form for up to 12 hours. Through endoscopy tests, the exit to my stomach is about 1/4" in dia. We have done the Barium x-rays, and the gastric emptying study. Prilosec helps with the acid control but I feel that it with the combination of Zoloft may be causing some of these other symptoms. Thanks for your feedback.

Dear Mark,
Zoloft can cause a number of gastrointestinal symptoms, but I was unable to identify any symptoms similar to those that you describe.  Do you have delayed gastric emptying as evidenced by the gastric emptying study?
If the GI symptoms are your main problem at this time, I suggest that you discuss with your physician the possibilities of trying other drugs instead of Zoloft.
