post colon resection 5 months out

Try this again....I am 5 months out sigmoid colon/rectum resection. I found out in June I had a 3.5cm abcess (abscess). Now...with that size of an abcess (abscess) I should have had A LOT of pain...none.  I had gas/bloating/some nausea but nothing my pcp thought was "issue".  Long and short, it was and I almost ended up having emergency surgery. Since the abcess (abscess) had "healed over" I was put on antibiotics for a month in hope to avoid a colostomy when I finally did have surgery on July 30.  Surgery was a success...no colostomy...recovery was horrible, but I got through.  Now...question is...I am having problems with bowel movements....I actually think I had a bowel obstruction last week (vomiting/fever/nausea).  Since surgery when I have had "pain" I have gone to the ER, had ct scan and each time nothing so now I don't know what to watch for since I don't present "normal".  I have a horrible time keeping bowel movements "normal" even with extra fiber intake.....I'm about to lose my mind with fear I won't feel if something major developes and because I don't have the kind of pain one "should have"...well, I'm afraid something horrible will happen.
I guess I just need to vent to someone and see if anyone else has similar problems.

With surgery or other trauma to the colon it stops working for several days and then starts again.  Sometimes though, it will work and then stop, then work.  My son went thru this and they kept thinking he had a blockage, in reality his colon just wasn't working at times.  Talk to your doctor about this.
