Hi, sorry to hear to hear you are in such pain. Don´t be afraid of the surgery, I also had diveticulitis a few times and finally had the surgery. Have you not had a colonoscope? That´s usually one of the tests they do before surgery. I had part of my colon removed over a year ago, you will have to be patient , don´t expect to get back to normal straight away, you will go through all sorts of doubts as your b/m change, in qty, and quality ! I have found that I have to careful what I eat, not too many vegetables or I get stinky wind etc. and I can say it has taken me a year to settle.
Good luck
at least u all know what u have, i'm only 23 and had a bowel problem since 18, I wish truman medical center wasnt full of morons

I hope you get the help you need.
Anne
I have had diverticulis three times this year. Now they want to go and take part of my infected colon out and give me a bag for a month or two. then go back and reconnect my colon.
I have had no ct scan or mri to show what is going on. I am so scared. What should I do? any ans.
If it doesnt give, then ask for a colonscopy. CT scans do not show everything...
Thanks, Jaybay. Feel a little better every day. Taking probiotics and still on a bland diet. Will increase fiber slowly.
I haven't had diverticulitis myself, but I can tell you that intestines just don't like to be messed with - either surgically or due to infection. They tend to sulk and get better in their own good time. My mother-in-law had diverticulitis complete with rectal hemorrhaging, and it took a good month for things to get back to normal with her. Sounds to me like your doc is doing the right thing by giving it some more time. Try to eat bland foods in the mean time and give the gut a rest.
