post gall bladder surgery

On Feb 13 2009 (yes, FRIDAY the thirteenth), I had my gallbladder removed due to gall stones. I was quite sick and couldn't eat much (was on a 'diet' of gaterade, juice, jello and IV liquids from time to time). The good part was that I lost about 25 pounds (needed to - and more (feel better as far as that goes)). The bad part is I haven't felt that good since.I've had pain around the belly button  (across the front like a belt), and some in the upper left and upper right. Most recently, I started feeling worse. I get chills, hot flashes (not menapausal (sp)), low grade fever, lost of appettic (sp), fatique, headaches and just not feeling all that great.

I have been told that 'it takes time for the body to get use to not have the gallbladder' - okay, but FIVE MONTHS later? They also have told me that it's 'stomach spasms'. My feeling is it's something else. (my 'gut feeling'?). I keep thinking they're going to have to go back inside to find out (a sonagram didn't show anything).

Has anyone else had such problems? If so what did they do.

Yes. I had mine removed 5/12/09 and it has been downhill ever since. The only difference between me and you is I never had gallstones. My doctors have no clue what's wrong with me so I'm in the process of getting a second opinion from another GI doctor who specializes in the pancreas and liver because I am sure that's where my problem is. If I were you, I would research another doctor and get a second opinion yourself. The one thing I can tell you is in the mean time watch what you eat. You want fresh fruits (no citrus though), fresh vegetable (limit broccoli and cauliflower as they are gassy),lots of protein like  fish, skinless poultry(chicken and turkey), extra lean red meats(in moderation), brown rice, and lots of fiber rich grains and oats. As for dairy, skim milk, low fat cheese, and low fat yogurt but no eggs( too high in cholesterol and fat). Never eat anything fried. You want to cut out as much of the bad fat as you can but still incorporating in some good fats like peanut butter and some nuts in moderation. I hope some of this has helped. Please keep me posted.

Take care,
