post gallbladder pain

by Korine, Oct 15, 2009 01:25PM
Four years ago I had my gallbladder removed through laproscopy. Before being diagnosed with gallstones I was having gallbladder attacks for 8 months before anyone diagnosed me. I was told it was just GERD. Things have been fine since the surgery until about 4 months ago when I started having the same symptoms as I had from the gallbladder attacks. I have the right upper quadrant stomach pain that radiates through to my back. It feels as though there is something under the right side of my rib cage. The pain is not constant but does occur daily and ranges from mild to quite painful at times. I have seen my primary physician for the bothersome symptoms. A chest x-ray was done and was normal. I was told by my doctor and a surgeon that it is most likely adhesions from the surgery and that there is not much that can be done. I feel as though it should be looked into a little more. I have read about other complications that can occur years after gallbladder removal. Should I be concerned and insist on further investigation?

Yes, insist on further investigation. A couple of things to do should be a liver and pancreatic enzyme panel and and MRCP to check the state of your biliary system. Don't let the docs brush you off until the only option left is adhesions. But if it is adhesions there are things that can be done.
