post gallbladder surgery

by van16, Dec 04, 2008 08:40PM
I had my gallbladder out 2 wks ago and I am still having pain in my right side that comes and goes.  It feels like a spasm, it is so painful that I have a hard time walking or driving.  My question is, is this normal? Will this go away? My surgeon told me to take tylenol.  It helps for a while but always comes back.  I am having a difficult time working and need to feel better soon!  Any sugestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
V

Van, if you're following a 'normal' diet then you may want to try following a low fat diet and see if it's of help. Many people cannot process fats the way they did before the surgery and it may take quite awhile to adjust, so it's worth a try.

Good luck, I had mine out 4 years ago and continued to experience the same pain you are talking about.  After numerous tests, hospital stays, EDG's etc... it was finally determined that I have Sphinter of Oddi Dysfunction.  My common bile ducts continued to close therefore they had to do 3 ERCP's where they cut my bile ducts to keep them open which did not help.  It was a frustrating battle.  I would go back to your doctor and make sure your common bile ducts are open.  The pain you described is exactly the way I felt prior to my last surgery.  Good luck!!!
