I had Nissen fundoplicationHiatal hernia repair for GERD back in 2004. Within a year I developed chronic diarrhea. I sought a GI physician who diagnosed me with IBS. The medication did not help my symptoms. For the next few years I managed to tolerate the symptoms until this past October 2008. I developed chest pain that was intolerable. Eventually, I also developed a cycle of chronic diarrhea alternating with gasAdjustable gastric banding Bacterial gastroenteritis Barium enema Blood gases Blood gases test Chagas disease Culture of gastric tissue biopsy Feeding tube insertion - gastrostomy Gas - flatulence Gastrectomy Gastrectomy - series/bloating, stomach pain and constipation. Other bothersome symptoms are nausea, weight loss and excessive flatualation. I was sent back to the surgeon who performed the fundoplicationHiatal hernia repair and everything was intact. I did not have ulcer or hernia. My GI problems persisted and I was referred back to the original GI doctor. After a colonoscopy, endoscopy, ultrasounds, upper and lower GI, swallowingPainful swallowing Swallowing difficulty tests, motility tests and an H2 breathBreath alcohol test Breath holding spell Breath odor test (which was positive and treated wtih antibiotics), I'm still experiencing all of these symptoms. I have been prescribed with several different IBS medications none of which have helped, some have been intolerable for me. The antibiotics helped with the bacteria overgrowth but not with my other GI symptoms. My doctor says there is nothing further he can do for me. He keeps saying I'm unresponsive for IBS treatment whereas I believe my problem is associated with the fundoplication as I never had any GI problems prior to the surgery. Has anyone else experienced this and is there help out there for me? Sick and tired of being sick and tired.
