Exactly what operation did you undergo? Did you have a total colectomy or something similar?
I underwent a total colectomy four years ago and in the weeks after the operation I experienced 6-8 BMs per day with 2-4 at night - very liquid in consistency. One thing to remember is to avoid anal soreness by making the last toilet paper "wipe" with soapy water. If you are away from home, take very mild baby wipes with you for any toilet visits while en-route.
I found that a diet with plenty of fibre helped to "bulk-up" my motions from almost 100% liquid to a "muddy/sludgy" consistency.
Specifically try organic bran added to yoghurt and your morning cereal. Also I ate home made muesli (bran + oats + grated apple + lemon juice + any other fruits/nuts all soaked in milk so that it looks like "wet cement").
