prominence of the head of the pancreas

by meder, Jun 29, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 40 year old female. I had a total hysterectomy including my ovaries in Nov. 2006.  Sometime around January I started feeling discomfort in my left side. Somewhere to the left of my belly button. I just had a CT done and the clinical impression shows a prominence of the head of the pancreas without evidence of a discrete mass.  I haven't seen my doctor yet. It's my gyn surgeon that I had order the ct. I still have to wait several days to see him.  I had the CT place fax me the results.  I just wanted to know what promienece of the head of the pancreas means.
THanks!

Possibilities can be pancreatitis, a pancreatic cyst, or possible cancer.

I would consider further evaluation with an MRI or endoscopic ultrasound to rule out cancer.  Obtaining pancreatic enzymes should also be considered.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
