question about symptoms of colitis and diverticulosis

by Dollylama, Oct 23, 2002 12:00AM
I have read that colitis causes bloody diarrhea.  I have nad a lot of diarrhea and some crampy in the lower left side, hip and back.  Would blood necessarily show in diarrhea if it was colitis?  Also does diverticulitis only cause lots of bleeding or can it sometimes cause small amounts.  I have had occassional bleeding (3 times in the past 8 months) which I have attributed to hemmorhoids.

I am not very familiar with these two conditons, but rectal bleeding is never normal and needs to be evaluated by your doctor.  Don't ever assume it is hemorrhoids.  The only way to really know is to have a colonoscopy.  Good luck.

To: Anyone
I was recently diagnosed with diverticulosis.  I’ve been doing some research on this condition and find that I experience only a few of the symptoms associated with diverticulosis.  I’m looking for other people with this disease so that I can compare symptoms.  I have a feeling this might not be the sole cultrate of my pain.
My pain always happens between 2am and 5 am.  It can last as long as half an hour.  It always starts as a stomach ache, then chills and cold sweat.  The pain rolls upward underneath my breast bone and spreads to the left and right and wraps around to the back.
The pain is extremely intense, it worsens with movement.  The only positions I can tolerate is doubled over on my knees.  As the pain peaks, I shake and a couple of times felt I would pass out.  Then as fast as it started it stops, afterwards I feel tired and sore for a whole day.
Can anyone relate to this?
