question about types of polyps

by katey, Nov 01, 2001 12:00AM
I had a colonoscopy done about two weeks ago, and today i got the results regarding a polyp that they found.  They said that it was a very small adenoma, he estimates no larger then five centimeters.  He told me the name of the type of adenoma it was, but i cannot seem to find anything on it.  The type he said it was started with an F, and he said that they are the most unlikely of the adenomas to turn to cancer, but looking on the net there doesn't seem to be such a type!!  I found a villous polyp, and two others, but that was not the name he gave me.  i can't get another appointment to ask him, so i was wondering if any of you could help me.  I'm anxious about this polyp, and i'm only 18, and i heard that the younger you are when you start getting the polyps, the greater your chances are of developing cancer.  He said that he doesn't recommend me having another colonoscopy for another five years.  I'm slightly confused!!  I thought the adenomas were the "bad polyps", and they were the ones you have to keep a close eye on afterwards.  If anyone can help me understand whats going on it would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Hi Katey,
You pay this doctor for his services and should be able to get this information from him.  I would try calling his office and tell them you would like to have a phone consultation with him after office hours or are concerned with your results and would like to speak with his nurse.  I was in this line of work for along time and they will not mind answering your questions at all.
