question on meds for ulcerative proctitis

question on meds for ulcerative proctitis

I was diagnosed about one month ago with ulcerative proctitis and was told do use cortifoam for 10 days twice a day then 21 days at night and asacol 400 mg. 2 tablets 3 times a day.  My question is that now that I am symptom free my doctor told me to reduce the asacol to 3 tablets a day and using mesalamine suppositories every third night.  Is there any possibility that my ulcerative proctitis will not return and how would I even know this if I am on meds to control it?

Also, is the key to keeping this from spreading further - keeping the ulcerative proctitis under control?
