question

I need help with a question please, I had my gall bladder removed in May and am still having discomfort along with chronic bile looking diarreha. Now i have lost my appetite. Went to the hospital last night and they did ultrasound and said the duct was still open or thts not the word but also i have liver enzymes elevated. I feel tired all the time and sick. They said they werent elevated enough to be hospitalized and sent me home after pain med and nausea med. I am still feeling aweful in bed and hurting in the same place my gallbladder was. Anyone know any suggestions?

well now due to your gallbladder being out there is nothing to store the bile...therefore the bile will continuously be free flowing.  So the bile looking stools isn't really surprising.  Stay away from greasy food or anything high in fat.  A meal high in fat will increase the amount of bile produced....and believe me it's not a comfortable thing for your gallbladder free body to digest.  You are living without a gallbladder now so some foods will be intolerable.  It's not the same for all people.  But most have problems with greasy and fatty foods.  Everything else is kind of a try and find out situation.

As for the duct being open, that is a good thing....but the elevated liver enzymes are something you may want to watch closely for a while.  Liver enzyme can be elevated for numerous reasons, such as consumption of alcohol, certain foods, acetaminophen, or even medical conditions.  I would say have your GP draw blood again with a Liver Panel and check the enzyme levels again.  They may have gone back down to normal.  If they increasingly stay up see if you can be referred to a Liver specialist or a GI.  (Possibly look into SOD- Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction)

Just my take on things from my personal experience!  Hope it helps!

Thank you so much for your response. I do take alot of lortab for pain. I also have had chronic back pain for years and i was worried maybe it is the tylenol in it causing the elevated enzymes. I really has scared me when they told me they were up. Ive been on lortab for years but never had a problem with them being elevated until this flare up since gallbladder surgery. Thanks again.
