rancid smelling burp and stomache pain

ok i'm asking this question due to some symptoms my fiance has been experiencing.

probably about once a week he will get these really rancid gross smelling burps and we can't find any common food that may be causing it (one week it was fish sticks he had eaten, the next week it was chex mix, and the following it was taco bell)

he also complains of pain right around where is diaphragm is located numerous times a week.  most commonly after he has eaten something spicy or has been drinking alcohol but it does also show up and many random times.

the most recent symptoms which have scared me are he said there was blood in his stool yesterday morning and yesterday evening he coughed up some blood.

does anyone have any insight on what this may be?  we are waiting for his health insurance to kick in before we go see a specialist but i would really like to get some insight meanwhile to try to set me at ease.
