recovering rumination syndrome patient

In 2004 I was diagnosed with rumination syndrome at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I was in high school and of normal intelligence. My doctor thought it was stress induced. Diaphragmatic breathing eliminated my vomiting! And the doctor told me that my constipation and bloating would reduce as my digestive system learned how to function again.

Now, over five years later, I am still dealing with a very slow digestive system. Currently, I take Glycolax (17 g) twice a day, amitiza (24 mcg) twice a day, OTC Fibercon twice a day, Prilosec OTC once a day (I was taking Nexium but the Prilosec is cheaper), and Synthroid (75 mcg) once a day. I also take OTC Lact-aid dairy pills.

I am concerned that all of this medicine is hurting me. Mostly, I am concerned about the Glycolax. I have taken it twice a day for at least five years and my throat is constantly irritated, but the doctor just keeps prescribing it. Can taking so much of this medicine cause harmful effects? Frankly, I am tired of taking so much medicine; I am an active and healthy college student. Do you know of any other options for me? Or will it simply take more time for my digestive system to improve?
