rumbling?

by odc, Feb 08, 2006 12:00AM
I am a 38 y.o. white female, nonsmoker, nondrinker, thin build. Hx of mild IBS.

For the past month, I've had abdominal symptoms that began abruptly after 2 days of excessive overindulgence on sweets and candy (vacation). This was followed by 2 days of pain, bloating, and gas, and my digestive system has not seemed to return to normal.

Current symptoms: some cramping, occasional excess gas, some nausea and appetite loss. Bowel movements and stool are basically normal. I have had one episode of noticing a small spot of bright red blood on the stool surface, after experiencing some cramping. This occurred last August, and have not seen any other since.

The symptom that perplexes me is increased lower abdominal rumbling (small intestine?) and noise. I can hear the gurgling, and feel rumbling when I put my hand on my abdomen. This occurs mainly when lying in bed, at night and in the a.m.

Recent tests:
Stool culture: negative for parasites, etc
Abdominal and pelvic CT scan: normal
Fecal occult: in process
Blood Work:
    WBC count normal (5.6)
    RBC normal
Manual differential, some out of range
Lymphcytes: 18%

This seems to be a repeat of the question below.

Thanks,

ODC again: I didn't finish my info before being cut off:
Monocytes: 11% Doc says these values are ok.

My physician says this is not really pointing to colon cancer (no family history either), but a colonoscopy is scheduled for next month.
What is your opinion? I am also really concerned about all the strange rumbling.
