ruptured appendix surgery delayed

My son had a CT Scan after several weeks of stomache pain. It showed a ruptured appendix. He was sent to the ER for emergency surgery. They preped him and he was ready for surgery and then called it off at the last minute. He was told it is safer to clear the infection and inflamation (inflammation) before surgery. They want to wait 6 weeks. This drastic turn around worries me. I have read the infection could do a lot of damage and become peritinis. I have also read that if the open him up and stir things up it could become septic. What is the best choice?

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  I just want to let you know that this is sometimes done when it is the safer option.  There is no way anyone on here can advise you which option to choose because we do not have all the information.  I would tend to agree with your son's doctors though.  However, there is no harm in seeking a second opinion.
