ruptured appendix

ruptured appendix

Visited the ER for symptoms of a bladder infection along with significant abdominal pain.  Was given a urinalysis, diagnosed with a UTI, prescribed antibiotics and released.  Two days later, abdominal pain continually worsened and became severe, could not walk.  Returned to ER.  Diagnosed with ruptured appendix at midnight.  Received morphine continuously for pain because so severe.  However, surgery was not performed for 8 1/2 hours after diagnosis until doctor arrived in morning.  After surgery, it was indicated that appendix was severely ruptured and there was a lot of infection.  Ended up with 6 day hospital stay and slow recovery.  Is this acceptable medical care, especially in light of the abdominal pain two days earlier?  Did the wait significantly increase the potential for severe and even life threatening infection?
