ruptured bowel

my mum, 55 underwent surgery 6 months ago to remove cancer from her bowel, she had chemo twice but reacted badly both times. Since that time she had hardly been able to eat and keep foods and liquids down. She went into hospital last week for surgery as her bowel had twisted. The surgery went well but yesterday she had emergency surgery as there had been a leakage and infection has spread to all her organs. They said she has a 50/50 chance but her body isnt fighting the infection well. Can you give me any info or advice

I am really sorry to learn of your Mother's medical struggle.  I suspect that she is suffering from peritonitis as a result of the leakage from her bowels into the abdomen (similar to the situation when one suffers from a burst appendix I think).

However, the main weapon should be an intensive course of antibiotics and, I hope that these are being administered even though you have not mentioned them.
