severe coughing from the esophgus area only.

I have been diagnosed with gerds several years back. and also hiyatel hernia .  ive all but stopped smoking completely but do remember reading that  reflux does cause coughing.  This is terrible.  Is there an at  home remedy I can try to allieviate this.
