severe gall bladder pain, but surgeon wont oparate

by PreciousLittleLady, Nov 30, 2007 04:33AM
Hi,

Hope you can help. it's a bit of a long story.

Im a 32 yr old lady.

I had a scan a couple of months ago, the sonographer said my gall bladder was non-functioning and full of stones and sludge.

I saw my surgeon yesterday, I described my symptoms, which were sharp pains under right rib, pain across the shoulder blades and a horrible crushing type pain in the centre, but just below my breast bone. vomiting bile etc..

He looked at my scan and said my gall bladder looked ok and that I have 1 tiny stone there, he said it's not bad enough to come out, and put my pains down to being constipated after feeling my lower adbomen.

I have been constipated all my life, going to the loo every 3-4 days is normal for me.

These pains are bad, my mum, gran and grandfather all had gall bladder problems and they recoginse my symptoms.

I also told the surgeon I was 8 weeks pregnant, he then said to come back after the birth, have a re-scan and if the gall bladder looks thickend then he'd remove it, but he wont perform and op on a pregnant women.

Should I see a different surgeon?

I have read somewhere, that you can oparate but in the 2nd trimester.

The pains can be so bad, surly he's wrong and that I do need it removed.

Thanks

Honestly, for the sake of your baby, wait until after you give birth to even consider surgery.  General anesthesia for a pregnant woman is extremely dangerous to the fetus.

I would get a new doctor..they can do surgery even when your pregnant. Dont suffer with the pain any longer than you have to. My doctor also said he didnt believe my gallbladder was bad(even after 3 scans showed it wasnt working) I told him hes taking it out or i will be back again tomorrow and every day until he does. And he took it out. I cant imagine having attacks while your pregnant. Luckily mine didnt start til after my baby came. I would see a new doctor though...soon too.

be very thankful that the doctor does not want to perform surgery.INSIST ON THE OLD GALLBLADDER SURGERY or they will cripple you for life.they left clips which will migrate into your bile duct and also the clips cut off blood and bile to help digest food and then you have to go in for an ercp in which they put a camera down your throat and sometimes secretly remove the clips or put a stent in your bile duct causing even more pain and leaving you debilitated.GOOGLE (clips migrating into bile duct)and(stent occluding bile duct)go to haelth food store and by milk thistle or stone free.these supplements will help your liver especially the stone free for your stones.call the manufacturer of the products and ask about taking whie pregnant.DO NOT GET THE NEW LAPARASCOPIC CHOLECESTOMY! YOUR CHILD NEEDS YOU!DO NOT LET THE DOCTOR SWEET TALK YOU.cut back on the meat this is what forms stones in the first place.your doctor has not told you this has he?good luck and congrats on the new born.

I sorry to hear about the problems with the clips, but you don't have to insist on the old surgery, most docs wouldn't do it anyway unless there are problems. THE BEST THING TO DO IS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD SURGEON. Check him online  and make sure he's not a butcher. all the best

I dont even know what hes talking about with the clips and stunts or stints(same diff?)...is that normal procedure?!

Why have surgery at all?   She only has one small detectable stone.  Attack it with drugs.  Ursodiol a.k.a. Actigal is a prescription drug for that.   There's also an herbal remedy called "Planetary Stone Free", I think.  I have much higher confidence in the Ursodiol, though--it's just the doctor may not let you have it.  Both drugs are harmless to the baby--Ursodiol never leaves the colon, and the herbal treatment isn't even a drug.
