by luckyduck755, Aug 19, 2008 10:10PM
I had the gallbladder surgery; stones were left in the cystic duct; should the surgeon checked the duct for stones
while he was in there.....now they are lodged-surgery is too dangerous to have...anyone else have this happen?

The cystic duct should have been clipped off very close to the insertion of the common bile duct. But it's possible the surgeon may not have been able to trace the course of the cystic duct back to the CBD. Have you read your records on the surgery?  A longer 'stump' of the cystic duct and stones within it could be problematic. Have you discussed the possibility of using an ERCP to try to remove the stones? Why is surgery considered too dangerous?
