started new diet today and am really gassy. need help

My dr told me to start eating more fruits veggies and fiber to help with the constipation I experience from ibs. Today I started eating what she told me. I had an apple and a bannana and some activia yogurt. I also had some fiber cereal. Now I'm incredibly gassy. Is this normal when eating these foods? And if so what can I do to find some relief? Its incredibly annoying to constantly have to pass gas especially while working or being out. Any help is appreciated.

The problem has continuously gotten worse today. I even had the urge to pass gas while being intimate with my boyfriend. I NEED this to stop. Has anyone had success with gas-x? I'm always nervous to try meds. Is this what I have to look forward to with a high fiber diet and ibs??

This is normal.  Your doctor should have told you to take it slowly.  If you suddenly pile all this stuff into your system, it is too much for your body to handle.  I would recommend slowing down the amount of fiber you are consuming, and increase slowly.  Gas-x is fine to try but I've found that it doesn't eliminate the gas, it just makes it easier to pass.
