stomach discomfort every two hours

by tont, Nov 30, 2003 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with Hypoglycemia about a year ago, with a Glucose Tolerance Test that showed a Glucose level of  36 mgdl at 3 hours.  I had been suffering with lightheadedness that coincided with hunger pains.  It seems that my diet may have helped with the hypo, but the consistent symptom I still receive is stomach discomfort (up below the breastbone) every 1.5 - 2 hours.  Food relieves the symptoms as a symptom of hypo is hunger, yet I cannot really say for certain what I'm feeling is hunger.

IgG RAST allergy tests revealed allergies to Wheat and Cheese and they have been eliminated from my diet.  IgE RAST allergy tests show no allergies at all.  A  test to check for any kind of Candida infection showed a moderate level of Candida in my stool as well antibodies at a high level yet after being put on Nystatin for two months I still feel no relief of the frequent stomach discomfort I described.

I frequently have diarhea (diarrhea), especially in the morning.  I sometimes notice that antacides help with the discomfort - for a while.

I had an ulcer two years ago which went away.

I am wondering if these symptoms sound familiar.  Any ideas?

Stomach discomfort that is relieved with food may be consistent with an ulcer.  The fact that you have had one in the past, makes this consideration more likely.

I would suggest an upper GI series or upper endoscopy to ensure an ulcer isn't causing your symptoms.  This can also determine whether there is inflammation of the esophagus or stomach present.  I would also test for H Pylori - which is associated with ulcers and the inflammation.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
