stomach pain, headache, joints

I really need help for my 9 year old son.  He has been sick for 7 weeks and is not getting any better. We have been in and out of hospitals doctors offices and ER visits through out this time.  He started out with really painfull headaches above his left eye and blurred vision in his right eye which is still the case.  Even when he doesn't have a headache his vision is blurry in that eye.  Then he got the flu which so did my other kids but they got better within 24hrs and Daniel did also but two days later he got really sick again and has never recovered.  Constant severe abdominal pain right above his belly button never moving from this exact spot.  Hurts alot to push on it he says it feels like someone is tightning a belt around his stomach.  Along with this he has joint pain in both hips and in his right knee that makes it very hard for him to walk normal.  Cramping in other joints as well, poping elbows and shoulders out of joint and fingers to get releif from the stiffness that is so painful.  He has had a Upper GI, Abdominal Ultrasound, Colonoscopy, Endoscopy, Cat Scan of the stomach, MRI of the head, Cat Scan of the head, MRI of the Hips and Right Knee on Tuesday couldn't use contrast he was too dehydrated to get a vein.  Wednesday they did a spinal tap and since then he has been throwing up non-stop and his stomach pain and headache have increased significantly.  Everything has come back normal including all the blood work all the tests urine, stool showed blood but GI is not concerned about it.  They think at some point he may have had colitis that is healing.  We have basically been told that there is nothing more they can test for.  The pain managment clinic said this can't be medical it has to be a psych issue because everything has come back normal.  I know this is not in his head he is in severe pain.  He doesn't have a fever but is cold and clamy and sweaty.  He was a very healthy boy never any problems before this.  He doesn't come from a broken home he has lots of love and was very normal prior to the onset of whatever this is.  He was also having a great year in school.  How do I get help when everyone has wrote him off as nothing being wrong?

Hi Im very sorry your boy is like this, obviously something is wrong physically.  I know all about the problems with diagnosis and the doctors sent me to a pyschologist at one time.  I finally got an endoscopy and it was found I have chronic gastritis and a hiatus hernia.  Biopsies didn,t show a cause for the gastritis and a ph monitoring test didn,t show the reflux, yet I was having reflux during the test.  Im very frustrated too as I am in agony with flare ups most days and meds don,t work.  Its all I live every day of my life. I know how awful pain is and no one able to help.  However I have been going for prayer to a healing room and I won,t give up on God healing me. Do you believe in God and prayer for healing? Don,t be sceptical try it. Take your son to a healing room for prayer,if there is one near you,it is International and they have a website www.healingrooms.com Look there and find out. I wouldn,t want to speculate what your son may have but you could google a few things such as Lupus or parasites.  Even finding ojut what it is may not lead to a cure.  I would pray and get prayed for. I know He heals as other people have been healed. Best wishes

If the docs have ruled other things out...you may want to do research on "abdominal migraines"...sounds crazy, but it's real and he has alot of the symptoms.

hello, im having the same issues have you since found out what is going on because this is very scary. I've had all these test  and everything came back normal. I continue to have to go to the ER but that seem agitated with me. My Dr's continue to send me to specialist and is basically like I should be happy that these test are all negative and normal and I am I just want to know what is causing these symptoms that seem serious.

I am so sorry to hear that you guys have gone through this.  I too have a son who has had some puzzling unexplained problems.  He's a bright child, no problems at home, no broken home and a happy go lucky child.  We have also been told that his condition is psychosamatic.  My opinion is that this translates to "we don't know what the heck is going on and you are bugging us!"   I agree with you walkup - Mom's know when something is wrong.  Don't give up.  Do your own research and keep asking - change doctors completely if you have to.  One important thing that I've noticed is that it is important to your child that he/she knows you believe them.  Kids are sharp and they know what the doctors are saying.    Ugh!  Makes me furious.  Check out my post "Frustrated mom who is looking for answers"
Best of luck to you both!

Dear Walkup:
How is your son?  I was on the site trying to do some research for a friend whose little boy is ill.  Has your son been tested for Lyme Disease - make sure that they don't just do a simple test as there are too many false negatives, go straight for Western Blot.  It could also be Chronic Fatigue and Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
If your son was having a great year in school then don't let anyone assume that it is "all in his head"....
For information go to The Pediatric Network and also The CFIDS Association web site.
Good luck!

I feel for you but have no suggestions.  You have to get a doctor's attention with this.  I would keep going until you find a doctor who will actually listen to what you're saying.  My 5-year old daughter is having the belly button pains but not much else and the doctors keep telling us it must be gas pains.  She was doubled over today and went to sleep an hour early.  I'll keep marching until I find the right doc.

Good luck.
