stomach/rib discomfort

by MandiT, Jul 07, 2009 12:14PM
For the past month or so whenever I sit down, bend down, or lean any direction it feels like my ribs are digging into something I guess in my stomache. On the side where I am expiriencing this discomfort, my ribs are sticking out slightly further than the other side and it feels pretty tender to touch. I have a doctors appointment, but not for another month. Has anyone else expirienced anything like this? It is stressing me out like crazy!

well could be a few things but is it painful?  What side of the ribs are hurting?  Both?  Left side would be possible spleen...right side would be gallbladder..spleen would be sensitive to the touch and usually a ct scan/xray would be used to diagnose that.  Could be trapped gas, so maybe buy some gas x and give that a shot..had a member here a while ago went to the doctor thinking she had some spleen issue and it turned out to be gas trapped on her left side (it happens).  Could be ulcerative colitis of some sort but you usually have IBS-D..

Could also just be gastrititis caused by an ulcer.  Lots of possibilities.

Its only on my left side. It's more uncomfortable than painful. It feels like something under the top of my left rib cage is swollen and my ribs are pressing against it. I didn't even think of gas. I'm going to try the gas x, and hope that's all it is.

Thank you so much!!

you're welcome :) well... I HOPE it's trapped gas..but I have a friend who complained about the same thing you're complaining about and it was her spleen..and had to be removed so I HOPE that's it :) if it doesn't go away.. then yeah probably best to go into a doctor and they'll look at you and see if he thinks it's worth doing an xray or ct scan to check.  But yeah we had one girl showed up on the board who was in lots of pain and such and yeah it was just gas *shrugs*.  Anyway hope it works!
