stomach upset with chest pain and gas

by Janet__0__0, Sep 20, 1998 12:00AM

I am a 40y old F, 37 weeks pregnant.  About a month ago I awoke to escrutiating pain in my chest back and up my neck. It was that way for about an hour. I thought I was having a heart attack. I finally went to the E.R. By time I got there most of the pain stopped. They gave me a "coctail" of mylanta and a numbing med. The E.R doc told me to have an ultrasound done on my gall bladder. I did the next day and it came out neg.
Last night the same thing happened. My back and chest were in a vice grip. The pain or rather "burning type sensation" travels up my neck. Also what I have noticed is my heart beat is so rappid. Both times it happened. This eposode lasted about 1 and 1/2 hours. Although I have gas I still have to force myself to belch to try and get some relief.
I used to be Bolimic, Have I maybe done some permanent dammage to my stommach? I am also having a C-section, what will happen if I have one of these attacks during surgery? What should my Doc be looking for? All blood tests come back normal.

Dear Janet,
Your symptoms of tight and burning chest pain radiating to the neck may representesophageal reflux, whcih is seen in pregnancy.  I doubt that your currewnt problem is related to your previous bulemia or to permanent damage to your stomach.  It is unlikely that you wi;ll have an attack during your C-section.
Best of luck.
