stuck in throat, cant swallow

7 years ago a friend of mine got a pill stuck in his throat. Ever since then he has had the feeling that it is still stuck there. H has alot of trouble swallowing food, and what little he can it gets stuck and he ends up throwing up. All the doctors he has been to say there is nothing wrong with him. The psycologists have said the same thing. He says its almost like he has a second esophgus or that there is something stuck back in his nasal passages attached to his throat.
have you ever heard of this?
what should he do?
thank you for your time.

Timidbird,

First of all what type of pill did swallow that got stuck?  I personally can't rule out the fact that it could possibly still be there as bizarre as it seem.  Strangers things have happened!

What type of medical doctor has your friend seen, besides a  psychologist?  Has he ever had an endoscopy or seen an ENT doctor?  Has he ever had a CAT-SCAN or a MRI?  Certainly these would show a yes or a no to what is going on.  If it was me & I had not exhausted all of the above I would have an endoscopy done to see results then head over to the ENT.

I hope I have helped a little.  Post a comment on what unfolds.

For anyone interested in reading about Laryngopharyngeal Reflux I found some very good web sites. One from New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center
<http://www.nycornell.org/ent/Laryngopharyngeal.reflux.html>

and from Wake Forest University - Center for Voice Didsorders
<http://www.bgsm.edu/voice/reflux.html>

GERD can cause problems in the throat area and is not always accompanied by heartburn.
