symptoms for hep c

by poorvic, Jan 04, 2009 03:26AM
I was diagnosed with hep c approx 10 yrs ago. I grow increasingly tired and irritable and now the feet are swelling. However, Id like to add a word of encouragement. It is frightening to know that you will die because of this, but i tell myself ill die anyway so why worry. To those who have tried interferon and riboflavin and have not apparently had any results, rest assured you did accomplish something. My doctor at UCLA medical center told me that each time i tried the treatment (and i managed to finish them all) my viral count had dropped quite a bit even though they shot up again soon after, but he told that but for treatment i would be on life support by now. So though it wont cure or reverse some people, it does give you that extra time for life.
I have also found that using milk thistle (a herbal remedy) is effective enough to keep the enzyme count down. To those who poo poo herbal medicines ( i always did) this one did work - my enzymes are always low.
As far as diet goes, since i stopped eating meat or anything greasy, stopped drinking anything but water, i have felt much better. I try a long walk everyday and though it can be tiring at times, keep at it. You will feel better with exercise.
I have also written to the pharmaceutical companies to place my name as a volunteer for new treatment. when something new does appear, they will usually send you for blood tests and abdominal ultrasounds. Some will even pay you a  cost of living stipend, for the trip; it will all depend really on each persons position.
Anyway take heart - i have reached the age of 62 which is NOT contrary to the cliches, a young man by any means and to those who reached or passed this age, it will soon be time to go anyway so don't let that create any new barriers or loss of faith in whatever you believe in.
