thick phlem

I'am currently suffering from some kind of problem that is still yet to be diagnosed. I have been to a ENT who says I may be suffering form GERD. However, I don't feel that I have that many of the symtoms associated with GERD. My only symtom is a very thick constant phlem that is deep w/ in my chest, and very hard to cough up. I also sometimes feel a lump in my throat and I have had some chest pains where my chest feels really tight when I breath. I have tried several allergy meds & some meds that loosen phlem & the last Dr. ENT gave me something called Nexium which only worsened my condition & also gave me upset stomach and diareha. I then asked the Dr. if he could do a Barrium swallow to see if I have some other Esophagus disorder & he says it's not necessary until he rules out GERD. So now I am very desperate to try and figure out what causes this constant thick imbeded phlem deep w/ in my chest and by the way I am unable to cough it up, I can only free it by clearing my throat . Any suggestions will truley be appreciated.    Thank you so

I had the same problem starting about ten years ago.  I was diagnosed with everything but what I really had.  I finally found a doctor who could tell me what it was.  Even though I saw no reason for it, I was having panic attacks.  It took me a very long time to acceot this, but I finally started taking the meds he prescribed.  My symptoms were exactly the way that yours are.  There is still no reason that I can think of why this happened but it did.  Please try to find a Dr. and explain this to him.  It took me so long to admit it but I feel 100% better
