Went great without a hitch. Of course, as with any surgery, there was a short recoveryRecovery position - series period but how wonderful to live without ANY medication, no pain, and eating as I like. During 1999, I developed a severe virus which, as those of you know who have had the procedure, you cannot vomit. So as a result of the virus, I did a LOT of heaving. Produced severe pain and had to go to the hospital ER to find I had pulled my fundoplicationHiatal hernia repair loose. I had my second fundoplicationHiatal hernia repair in late 1999 and it also went great. RecoveryRecovery position - series time for me was even shorter than the first time - as a matter of fact, I ate breakfast a couple of hours after the first surgery - no kidding and it was just fine (justs juice and grits). I have lived since then with NO medication, no stomach pain, no esophageal problems at all - well, until about two months ago. Now I think that over time it has loosened and I am having the reflux symptoms once again. I am now taking Prilosec twice a day and am limited as to what I can eat. I have the usual chest pain, the "thumping" spasms in the chest, and some nausea. Doc told me last fundoplication that it would be difficult to have a third fundoplication because of scar tissue problems as well as the possibility of having trouble swallowing as the esophagus is shortened. I was wondering if anyone out there has had a third fundoplication and how did it go?
