tingling in legs

by Lamb13, Nov 15, 2005 12:00AM
I wrote earlier.  My 33 year old girlfriend had an ultrasound that showed enlarged veins in her liver.  We don't know the cause yet (waiting approval from the HMO for a specialist!).  In the meantime, she has been having tingling sensations in her leg (I thin it's just one leg, not both).  Doc is going to check for an ulcer in the meantime...anything else we should be looking out for?

Can't say for sure without examination.

Tingling sensations in the leg can be caused by a variety of neurological disorders (i.e. peripheral neuropathy).  A pinched nerve, or herniated disk can lead to tingling in the legs as well.

You can consider imaging studies (i.e. a back MRI) as well as blood tests (B-12 level, thyroid tests) to rule out some of the causes that can lead to tingling.

You can also consider a neurology evaluation to look for peripheral neuropathy.  Electrodiagnostic testing can be considered to further evaluate this.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
