total gastrectomy?

my mother has been diagnosed with a serverly ulcerated stomach.She has lost much weight and eats little.She is in constant pain.Are there any alternative treatments to a total gastrectomy and feeding tube?

If the ulcerations are due to elevated amounts of acid, has she been tested for elevated levels of gastrin?

My mother just had a subtotal gastrectomy nov.6 just a little over a week ago.  
How much does your mother weigh? My mother weighed 88 pounds an is 60 years old. She is on a ventilater in icu now,  not really sure what has happened  but i do know that they said she has a leak an fecal matter has came out inside her from a leak from the surgery. Now she has an  infection yet alone pneumonia.
If my mother had of weighed alot more i don't believe the turn out would have been like this. She is so malnurished an that  was another problem.
