ulcer in small intestine

ulcer in small intestine

Ever since I was treated for cancer I have had pain in my digestive tract. The gastro doctor did a lower gi scope and could see ulcerations at the end of my small intestines. He suggested Chrons but I never had a problem before chemotherapy. Can chemotherapy cause these ulcers? The treatment ended a year ago and I still have pain.

Chemotherapy can cause problems with the intestine. However, if the therapy was over and done with a years ago, you shouldn't be experiencing ulcerations at this time due to that. You may want to ask the doc to run some antibody tests that can differentiate between Crohn's and U.C. using antibodies to scan for markers that are often found in those with differing forms of inflammatory bowel diseases.

If the doc did biopsies - which should have been done as a matter of course - the pathology report should give you a good idea of what is being seen under the surface layers of tissues. Crohn's often has a characteristic pattern that is hard to miss. Get that report and read it.
