Is there a way to do an ultrasound during endoscopy?  I am going to have needle biopsy of a tumor in my pancreas.
Thank you.

Yes, there is. In endoscopic ultrasonography, the ultrasound sensor is lowered down the esophagus into the stomach and the fiberoptic endoscope can be used to visually guide the ultrasound sensor into place. The pancreas lies next to the stomach and the duodenum, which makes the placement wonderful for this use. Ultrasound images can be recorded from these locations. After the sensor is in place, reflected ultrasonic sound waves are used to record the image of the pancreas and a needle can be fairly precisely placed.
