unexplained weight gain

by babie1975, Sep 20, 2001 12:00AM
Does anyone know why or have any information/explaintion why some one would gain 20lbs in 2 months.  I have been to several doctors and they can not explained why I have gained so much weight so fast.  I have not changed my eating and have been evaluated by a nutrionist.  I need an explaintion or idea of what I should tell my doctors to continue looking for.  My thyroid was normal 2 months ago.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thank you for your help.

Hi -

Perhaps you should see an endocrinologist for an evaluation.

What about fluid retention.  Have they checked for kidney function?

Any major change in sleeping patterns or activity levels?

The only other thing I could think of would be that there is some hidden calories in something you eat a lot of - changed brand of something....?  But that much gain would be pretty difficult just eating normally.

I can guess you must be really frustrated by all of this.

Good luck and best wishes

Sally

Hello:

A simple blood test for thyroid hormones T3, T4, TSH and a blood test for electrolytes Na (natrium), K+ (potassium) can clear your case.

These electrlytes have to be balanced , for example more Na can make your body keep more water in the cells.

Whatever the result of the test, you should keep to Ayurvedic Anti- Kapha diet. It is important.

Matabolism can also be changed due to the age, as climateric 48 and up...
A nutrition specialist must be always an MD or an ND.

If your hormone test shows your hormones are OK- then check your diet.

I have been on a modified Atkins plan (Somercise) for nearly 12 weeks.  I've spilled ketones for all but about 9 days, yet have gained 8lbs.  Does anyone have experience with this problem or can you recommend something?  I did see my internist, and have had blood work drawn.  She kept saying I was probably taking in too many calories and am burning the fat I'm taking in rather than stored fat, and said she was, quite frankly, stumped.
