unresolved loose stools in otherwise healthy 27 yo male?

by junebugger, Dec 02, 2008 09:20AM
Hello, thank you for taking my questions.  Since the middle of june, I was in the ER for what was determined to be a panic attack.  It seems since then, although I don't have the anxiety any more, my bowel movements have been off.  I now go anywhere from 2-5 times a day, mostly in the morning, once right upon waking, and maybe a few times after that.

They are loose, many small droppings, sinking, somewhat oily, and more foul smelling.  I can't seem to have a normal movement!  Its just about daily like this, and since its started, I have seen my gastro doctor - he has done a couple stool samples, breath test, small bowel x-ray, celiac blood test, IBD blood screens, and and CBC.  Nothing seems to show up on any of those.  He hinted at it being IBS, but didn't sound conclusive.  I wonder myself, since more women than men seem to get that issue, from what I understand?

So I saw a cardiologist about a seperate issue, and told him about my intestinal issues - be put me on Librax, twice a day, and for four or five straight days - it was a miracle, I saw normal movements once again, once, maybe twice a day.  Now....the past three days and counting, I am right back to where I was before - still on the librax, but all of a sudden, its like it stopped working.  This has me totally confused.  I think the reason my doctor is hesitant on the IBS conclusion is that I don't really have that much pain, its more of a slight cramping, only some of the time.

The only thing I haven't undergone it seems is a colonoscopy, due to no health insurance at the moment.  Should I concede this being IBS, and get on a reccommened plan to try to correct it, or should explore further testing?

Thank you so much,
Scott!
