vaso vagal response after eating grapefruit

I consumed a grapefruit on my coffee break at work. Within the hour I was in distress. I felt pressure building under my rib cage, my BP dropped to 80/55, diaphoretic, bowels evacuated, trouble concentrating. I was taken to the Emerg. were they did blood tests, hooked up a saline IV, did 2 ECGs  to rule out heart. This reaction happened to me one year previous and at that time they gave me a "pink lady" cocktail of zylacaine and Maalox. I told the staff of that experience and said I suspected it was an asophageal spasm again. They gave me a Maalox shooter which helped relieve the stress. Six hours later I was released with no evidence of heart involvement. Could this have been triggered by the grapefruit?

Grapefruit is one of those weird things that totally clash with a handful of prescription drugs... the ones off the top of my head are for high blood pressure and one they give to transplant patients after the transplant. Sorry I don't know the names, but my first guess for your episode would be a drug interaction.
