vomitting large amouts of bile

by onisia, Oct 03, 2009 12:07PM
My mother had a partial gastrectomy in 2005 due to stage 3 gastric cancer and has been in remission but has been vomitting large amouts of bile 3-5 times a week due to delayed gastric empyting which they have scoped her for and have done a barium swallow and have found no obstructions etc.Possibly the vagus nerve has been affected. She has had to go to ER multiple times for IV therapy to replace fluids and electrolytes. She has tried motility antiemetic Rx's that don't seem to work. The GI specialist has said there is nothing else they can do...My question is for symptom management...she seems to have an over production of bile (she vomits at least 500cc of bile each time!!) Is there something causing this overproduction? Another interesting question...when she was being treated for UTI and taking antibiotics she never vomited during the course of taking the antibiotics!!! But the GP says that is only a co-incidence. What are your thoughts...
