I have been diagnosed with IBS for quite some time now, I've always had mucous in my stool, but the other day I had a bunch of mucous in one of my stools and some blood that was very dark red, I just wonder what that might be and if I should call a doctor or not.
My gastro told me if the blood is dark red, then it is coming from the upper GI tract (stomach or small intestine) - if brightBright beginnings red, the large intestine. Wherever it is coming from, you really do need to see a gastro and find the cause, then you can get appropriate treatment. Any kind of blood in your stool is abnormal and warrants immediate investigation.
