worried

I have been dealing with a change in bowel habits and abdominal pain for the past 2 1/2 months. Went to a gp who initially thought diverticulitis because of tenderness in lower left abdomen- that wasn't it- went to a gastro dr. who said IBS since he diagnosed me with that about year and a half ago. however, these symptoms are different than last time. Basically, my bowel pattern has changed- feeling of incomplete evacuation- have been taking citrucell which seems to make stools much softer but still not feeling like I have a complete bowel movement. Also, have been experimenting with diet from low residue to high fiber and I am unable to figure out what helps. My main symptoms beyond the incomplete evacuations are stomach pain after eating located just above my navel and many times accompanied by a feeling of nausea. Other times feeling a pain below my left rib area. Although my appetite hasn't changed nor have I lost weight, I am concerned about possible problem with pancreas- Could this be the source or does IBS sound likely?
By the way, I had a colonoscopy 5 yrs ago showing mild diverticulosis, had recent blood tests-all normal, and also have been checked for fecal blood- negative. Thanks!

Any change on bowel habits should lead to a colonoscopy.

Things like polyps, strictures, or cancer can all lead to a change in bowel habits such as incomplete evacuation.

If the colonoscopy is negative, I would consider an abdominal CT scan to look for any obstruction.

If the tests remain non-revealing, treatment for irritable bowel syndrome can be optimized (i.e. with antispasmodic agents).

These options should be discussed with your personal physician or gastroenterologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Hi there...just wanted to comment since I JUST posted a question very similar to yours...I get that gurgling sensation on the left side under my rib cage also...I just asked about it as well!

This whole IBS thing is annoying, it's like the cure all answer to so many things and you have to wonder if there's just something else at play here!  I have been dealing with this forever and to be told it's just IBS, take fiber and call me in a year is sooooo annoying!!!

Good luck with your answer!  I hope it will help you!
