Hello, my sgotAst is 64. my sgptAlt is 96. and my gamma glutamyltransferase is 93. I have been risk rated by my insurance group. should I be worryed. thank you in advanceAdvance care plus Advance relief for your advice
Hello Pistollewis,
Your liver enzymes are mildly elevated. The two most important
are the SGPTAlt and SGOTAst. Some doctors do not like GGT test because
of its sensitivity. Do you drink alcohol regularly or are you taking any medications? Drugs like acetaminophenAcetaminophen Acetaminophen 8-hr relief Acetaminophen caplets Acetaminophen child Acetaminophen children's strength rapid tabs Acetaminophen extra strength Acetaminophen extra strength cool ice caplets Acetaminophen extra strength gelcaps Acetaminophen geltabs Acetaminophen jr strength rapid tabs Acetaminophen pm can raise your
liver enzymes, but if you stop the usage the enzymes usually return to normal. When doctors find that your liver enzymes are
elevated they usually run a Hepatitis Panel to rule out Hep. A,B or C. Hopefully your doctor has done this test already if alcohol or medication is not a consideration. Also do you have
any pre-existing medical conditions? Other dysfunctioning organs
or diseases can effect your liver.
In my case during a routine physical my doctor found that my
liver enzymes were elevated. After running additional test that were all normal she referred me to a gastroenterologist for follow up. He suggested that I have a ultrasound test to look at
the liver to see if it was normal. The diagnosis was fatty infiltration or fatty liver(NASH)-NON-ALCOHOLIC-STEATO-HEPATITIS.
This is benign condition, however it needs to be mointored because it can lead to a more serious condition. A liver biopsy is the only way to get a definitive diagnosis on the state of the liver. However most doctors will not order this unless the ultrasound or CT-scan reveals something else. Most patients are not enthusiastic to have it done because the procedure can be somewhat invasive and can be painful. Elevated liver enzymes mean that the liver is under some stress and it is best to find out what the cause is! I hope this info will help.-MIMJ08
Thanks MiMJ08 for feedback, I drink almost no alcohol and take almost no acetaminophen. My results where found by my insurance company exam, they checked me for everything before they would issue me a life policy.
Hello Pistollewis,
If I may I would suggest that you make an appointment to see
your PCP so that he or she can run the test again to make sure
that the results are consistent. The PCP will probably run a series of blood test to check all bodily functions. Some of the test that are routinely ordered are complete chemistry, complete blood count(CBC), urinalysis, thyroid and hepatitis panel. He or she may also order occult blood, and PSA. The insurance company placed you in that particular category because the results did not fall within normal limits. This is not to say that you are not in good health. But it is better to check these things out to be on the safe side. Like I said before elevated liver enzymes mean that the liver is under some type of stress and seeing that it is one of the most important organs in your body you want to make sure it stays healthy! Any other questions do not hesitate to ask! Good Luck-MIMJ08
I am not sure if I can help but I too have a question to ask.
I just got the results of a bloodwork I did and found out that my globulin level was 3.8g/dl and the reference range should be 1.9 to 3.6 g/dl. Please what does this mean?
