young colon polyps

I also am having problems finding info on polyps found in young adults.  I am 31 and 2 years ago was having problems with some blood in my stool, ignored it for a couple of months then went and had a sigmoidoscopy done.  They found 2 small polyps (benign) which is good.  But I am not sure when to go back to get tested again.  Polyps run in my family on both sides, and my moms mom died of colon cancer in her early 70's but it was never caught until late so they assume it started in her 60's.  So do I go get the full colonoscopy?  The doctor never said what to do next.  I know 2 people age 32 and 34 that haev colon cancer and never had signs.  So not sure what to do next.

Google FAP, this is an hereditary colon cancer which may be in your family.  This is in our family and I lost a husband to it at 31, a brother-in-law at 38, son at 32, and grandson ar 18.  Polys at your age are very rare, and normally the want to see you back every 2 years for another scope. Polyps can become cancerous.

Hey there, I am 33. I have had blood in stools for over 2 years and I have extremely bad anxiety so I would not go and get it checked out for fear of colon cancer. I finally went and saw a rectal dr back oct of 09 he did a sigmoidoscopy and said all looked fine, but wanted to do colonoscopy  to find out why I was bleeding and for so long. Well I made the appt, and then cancelled 2 days before, well finally a lifelong friend and another dear friend of mine, convinced me I NEEDED to get it done. Well I went to my ob dr and he referred me and got my appt scheduled. It was this past Tuesday, I had a polyp removed they said it had been there for about 2 years. They got it all plus I had internal hem. They said if it comes back precancerous then I go back every 4 years for colonoscopys. If not then I guess I go again in 10 years, although me Ill go probably every 4 anyway, so please go and get it checked, you will be fine, it was a breeze.,, Please keep us updated.
