1yr Old with Many swollen lymphnodes along sides of neck!

My son is 13months old, he is about 27lbs and is in perfect health to the naked eye. For the last 4months he has had swollen lymph nodes on both sides of his neck, running vertically from about an inch below the ear to just above the bottom of his neck. At first notice, there were only 2. Then a week or so later I began to notice more of them. They feel like hard pebbles which do move around a little when touched (they are not fixed in place). They range in size from just small little bumps to one which has me very worried that is about the size of a peanut/coffee bean.

My son has never had a real problems, he had a cold once with the sniffles when he was about 10months old and that was it. His lymphnodes where not swollen at that time.

I took him to his doctor, a family practitioner, and he tried to calm my worries by getting blood work- he ran a CBC and a lead test. I called and asked the results, he said everything looked normal.

I know that I am first time mother, but this seems very strange to me, lymphnodes are generally swollen in response to your body fighting off infection/illnesses/cancers...  His have not gotten any smaller since I first noticed them.

What could be wrong with my son? Also are there any extra tests I can have his doctor run to get to the bottom of this mystery?

my now 6 year old has two one one side of his neck they have been there for 5 years. no changes in them. the doctor feels his are fine and that they are related to the mono he had. we didn't know he had mono at the time until a few years ago when we thgouth he had mono.
I would just keep an eye on them and make sure there are no changes in size.
if you are still concerned, as I would be, and I am not a first time mom as my name says it all, I would ask to see a specialist just to make sure.
good luck

My son (21 months) has the same thing, a couple of palpable lymph nodes on the sides of his neck (both sides).  I first noticed them after he had a stomach bug back in December, but they haven't gone away.  He's extremely healthy like your son.

From what I've read, it's perfectly normal for kids' lymph nodes to be easily felt like this.  Probably because they're just little people.  Adults' lymph nodes are sometimes also palpable like this, not due to an illness that the person is presently fighting, but one that they had in childhood.  I have a permanently swollen node under my jaw on the right side, for example, has been there for years (and I've had CBCs done since as well).  I attribute this to numerous throat infections that I had as a child and tonsilitis that I had as recently as 7 years ago.
