Ankle Swelling

Ankle Swelling

Hi
Someone close to me started getting severe pain on the back of his ankle. It hurts for him to walk on it and limps. He has a minor cut on the back of his foot just above his heel. There is no purulent drainage from the cut and I do not see redness. He said the pain seemed like it started from 'nowhere'. He did wear shoes that cut the back of his foot above the heel that caused pain but was not wearing them when the back of his ankle started to give him pain. His ankle still gives him pain a day later and is swollen. Should he go to the doctor for this ? Can it still be an infection?

I would see a podiatrist for this. It could be a minor infection, and if so, you do not want it to get worse.

Even though he was not wearing the shoes that cut into his ankle when this started, they still could be the problem, they may have bruised a nerve or something and this takes time to heal.

Also, wearing an ankle brace might help if this is inflammation, try putting some ice on the area too, this will take the swelling down.
