Aspiration Liquid - Ear Ache

I aspirated liquid into my lungs last night almost came out my nose, started coughing. Almost immediatly my rt. ear felt uncomfortable, now it is turning into an earache.  Can this be caused from the aspirated liquid(diet coke). I am a healthy 56 year old.

The aspiration that occurred when you forced the soda out of your lungs went up your throat and out your nose.  But what you may have not known is it you likely pushed some it into your Eustachian tube at the back of the nasal cavity area. This is a tube that links the nasopharynx to the middle ear and thus your problem. Have you ever sneezed and had you ears pop? it is this same tube that connect the force of the sneeze to the ears. So now you have soda in you ear which is a lot like water in you ear after swimming.  It is unpleasant until it is cleared. You can either lay on that side and help it to drain. Or use which other favorite way of clearing your ears when you have water in them. It may be a little more tender than normal as the carbonation is probably irritating the inner ear.

Best of luck

I would advise you to seriously consider looking at Dr. Mercola's articles about artificial sweeteners.  They are linked to many things.  Most people know about the cancer risk, but they are associated with neurological issues and emotional issues as well.  He has useful information on what you can do instead, and it isn't all that sugar that you're trying to avoid.  He agrees with you on that one.  So, please do consider looking up this information.

Hello, i am new to this place too. I just wanted to tell you I do not know if the diet coke did this, but maybe it is possible. I suffer ear aches alot. When i get an ear ache I take 2 Advil and lay down for about 2 hours with a hot water bottel the old fashion rubber ones. I boil my water , pour it in and wrap the water bottel in a thin towel and rest my ear on it. In about 2 hours my ear ache is gone and i feel better. hopes this helps. and remeber if you cant get it under control call yr doctor. hope you feel better:)
