Hi all,

Since sunday morning I was down with a cold or flu, I don;t know which one. I had a very sore throat and runny/stuffy nose plus other less severe symptoms such as fatigue and headache.

I went to see a doctor and she said it is bacterial infection in my throat and gave me antibiotics. Now almost a week later I feel better.

During the illness, sometimes when I blew my nose traces of blood came out. Not anymore. I think it is normal with a bad cold/flu.

But what concerns me is, for the last 3-4 days, when I clear my throat especially in the morning, and i only had to clear it once or twice a day, the sputum looks like clotted blood and the colour is red and dark red. The amount was like a good spit.

Now, I did use a lot of "sore throat lozenges" called CHLORAPEPTIC. These candies are made of or have flavour of berry/cherry. I put them deep in my throat and left them to resolve there to relieve my pain, so maybe they are what shows up when i clear my throat?

Anyway, if it wasnt the candies, if it is the blood, is it normal to have blood come out when clearing the throat when you have cold or flu?

Other than that I have difficulty breathing through my nose, had a surgery in 2006 which has failed but never had blood issues so I doubt it's related to it.

Also, I had a chest x-ray last month it was normal. I am just not yet completely recovered from cold/flu but am 80% better.

Thank You
