Can anyone offer me any advice please?

I have tried posting my question on depression/mental health but it is not accepting new questions and I could not find another place so I hope this is okay to post my question here. I have been on disability since 2002 for my severe depression and panic disorder and finally I am starting to feel better, however, I am having a hard time finding a job because I have been out of work too long. My college education and work experience are now obsolete. I really need to get off of disability and find a job soon. I have tried using Social Security services to help me find a job but they are of no use. I have tried job fairs and posting my resumes online. I don't have the financial resources and time to go back to school. So I am volunteering at an office at a hospital to gain some experience and updated references. Can anyone out there offer any advice to me?

Hi Angela, I am on SSDI and will 60 in Feb and had been on disability thru Countrywide for the alotted weeks available to me. I had spinal surgery and was diagnosed with bi-polar I and between the stress of working for a company that used predatory practices with no conscious at all I had to go out on FMLA in 09. From there pretty much told them to hit the road went on unemployment for 3 yrs while I. Tried to get my crap storm of a life together. Then 2.5 yrs ago Dx'd with Hep C. In Tx now with 7wks to go. Have had Hep for over 30+ yrs never knew it, found out thru random CBC was feeling real tired etc.  I still fight with the mental health bs but some of this is the hep c. In answer to ur question "am I better now and can I work?", No...I am unable to work, but it's ok. Crap happens you make the best out of the cards you are dealt and believe me that other door does open. I have other things I do with animals, less stress, my own hrs, happy, I'm truly grateful but it took some soul searching and letting go of familiar ways to be where I am now. If u don't have a job u should be able to find some kind of financial aid somewhere, I would think there is help somewhere. I'm not doubting what you say by the way, it's just shameful that we don't take care of our own. Yet we let others freeload, that's all I'll say about the freeloaders. I'm genuinely sorry you are having a tough time Angela. I believe that if you truly believe that change will happen then...it will my friend. Take care. U can write anytime I will always answer.
Peace and Good Karma Angela

So sorry that you have gone through so much in your lifetime and still have so much to go through even still. There is much that I have not told you that I have and am going through but that is neither here or there at this point. I am so glad that you have found peace and happiness wherever you can find it. I, however, am still lost and am not at peace. Still looking at my age and my position in life or lack thereof and continually comparing myself to others who have successful careers and financial security in their lives. I don't have much self-esteem and dignity; being on disability is bittersweet in that you can stop working to work on your health, however, at a price of your self-worth, I feel. I read and continually look for the answer where I can find my peace, find myself again. Just like you I have had many obstacles in my path and continue to have them and family members that believe in me and in my struggles tell me to hang in there.
Thank you......you have given me some strength and a glimmer of hope and knowledge in the fact that I am not alone in this battle we both fight alone.
Sincerely,
Angela

Thank you so much for answering my post. I had a well-paid specialty job working in a laboratory for 15 years and have been out of work ever since ....that is 12 years! It has taken that long to find the right doctor and the right medications that work for me. Unfortunately, I don't qualify for any government grant to go back to school.
But thank you so much for your inspiring words of hope for me.....I really do appreciate it.

Why do u need to get off Disability now? You need to stay on get some training that is more up to date. What happened to ur last job. By law they cannot get rid of your job.....R u sure you are ok to go back to work. I'm asking because I have the same Dx and you can get a govt grant that has no expectations of being paid back and go back to school. Do yourself a favor because nobody is going to look out for your wellbeing but you. Don't feel guilty do what you need to do to make your life better
Good luck
