Cold Symptoms + Blood in Stool

Hello.

I have been having a cold for the past five-six days. It began with a sore throat, and has been mostly a managable head cold that's only given me a bad headache one out of those days. I didn't have stomach pains until today.

This morning around 4am I woke up with a bad stomach ache and went to the toilet. I had diahrea, and only when I was flushing it away did I notice the paper was all red and the water was red too. I held paper to my behind, and it was soaked in blood. I understand there can be a tiny amount of blood if you hurt yourself sometimes but it was so much I worried. The blood seemed to stop quickly though. It was bright red, so fresh? I rang nhs.

I went to an urgent care center instead of the hospital because that's where the nhs nurse sent me. The doctor there saw me but didn't ask about medications, illnesses, or anything, just felt my stomach and checked my behind. He didn't do any kind of check internally or anything. He said it could be a bug, that's all... Not what kind of bug, not... anything really. So I was left kind of confused. Though, if it was something like a cut or a hemroid would he have seen?

He said to wait and see if it happens again and if it's urgent obviously go to A and E, but otherwise see my GP. If it doesn't it was likely a burst blood vessel or something.

I am just a bit unsure of how serious it is. Is it flu? Some kind of bad flu? Or unrelated...? I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Your diarrhea could have affected an existing hemorrhoid and caused it to bleed.  That is why the blood was bright red.  It was a current bleed.  I'm sure you are going to be fine.  You more than likely have the real flu, or a cold coupled with a stomach virus.  Either way, a virus needs to just run its course unfortuantely.

I thought it might have been that but I was sure the doctor would have been able to tell... Maybe not?

It seems to have stopped so I thought it could be physical as suggested.

Only today my partner got the same symptoms, and now I'm worried. Could it be some kind of bacterial bug in our house? Odd it was only the once...

I had this problem again around Christmas, and today I have just had it again. The bleeding has not been as much and does not come everytime I pass stool. It is still the same bright red colour.

Is there likely to be hemeroids or a fissure or something? Because the doctor I saw on the first night didn't seem to see anything. Though I can't think why else It'd come and go.

Is there any chance of it being down too poor diet/a lingering infection or illness?
