Constant coughing and pain

When I was a child, I was tested for allergies and asthma. And, I had it all. But, in growing up, I have had less problems. However, I am in my late 30's now, and for at least 8 or 9 years now, I have caught a cough and/or a sneezing fit that lasted for what seemed like forever. I would have a dry cough with a tickle in my throat that caused me to cough non stop and lose my voice.  It is so bad that I should not be driving, but I took myself to the doctor. It causes me throbing headaches and shaking because I am in so much pain, and I get to feeling like I'm going to pass out.  The pain in my head is relieved by lying down.  The doctor was asking me if I was going through some kind of withdrawels.  REALLY????  NOPE!  I'm just really, really sick.  I have been put on prescription cough medicine, including prescription cough syrup.  It is helping, and my cough is now coming from my chest.....as if things are losening up.  I really don't know if this is a cold or a severe allergy reaction.  It only happens this time of year.  I should mention again that this has happened in the past each year except the last couple of years.  And when having x-rays done for a simple surgery, spots showed in my lungs that were later diagnosed as scars.  So, I can't help but think that my lungs are being affected.  And, because it only happens this time time of year, I can't help but wonder if it is a sever allergy.

I should add that when I went into the doctor, my temp was below normal, but I was throwing up due to coughing so much. I am very familiar with gerd, which I have had in the past.  But, I have moved into a stuffy nose that sneezes more than I would like to.  I am having night sweats, and the throwing up has stopped because I have a productive cough now.
